| So where does one start in todays day and
age? Well, the music industry has changed dramatically in
the 20 short years that I've been in it. The path that I
took within the music business rarely works in todays
environment. At the same time, there are more
opportunities if you know which way to go.
There is now an alternative to spending years in a recording school, and spending tens of thousands of dollars in tuition, just to come out and try to find an internship in a recording studio. There is a program by a company called "The Recording Connection" , which places their students right into the recording studios of their choice, to be trained one on one by a music industry professional. This is so much more effective than sitting in a classroom and learning something that might be irrelevant by the time they finish school. We are part of this program and trained and taught about 10 students so far. We teach them the real stuff you need to know in the studio, along with all the traditional stuff like setting up microphones, digital recording, etc. They also get to sit in on recording sessions and music productions and learn all about the music business.
All I have to say is that if this course was available when I was coming up, it would have saved me a lot of time and money.
